My Sister is a Mommy

Five and a half hours is not enough time to spend with the hubby on Saturday afternoons. Five and a half hours is never enough time to walk through the city on a day to yourself. Five and a half hours never goes by quickly enough on a plane ride from DC to San Francisco. Luckily for me, there is  a Sex and the City Marathon and I tuned in just in time to see Carrie’s Paris wardrobe. I am still tapping my fingers though and checking the clock religiously- as baby B, Kristen and I all woke up congested with sinus pressure that isn’t messin’ around. I don’t know who to blame for the sandpaper throat, but I would do this over a million times if it meant having my sister and sweet baby B around more often. One of the most unbelievable changes in my life thus far has been watching my big sister become a mother. We have both been babysitters and nannies our whole lives, but seeing her hold this gorgeous little blue eyed baby that is her very own, and my very own niece, has chang...

Missing B

She won't remember the pollen in her nose, or the spiky berries under her foot in the basket... but she will remember how loved she has been from the start, and how beautiful her mommy is.

Submission

1 Peter 3:1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives.. 3 And let not your adornment be merely external —braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit , which is preciou s in the sight of God.  In month 1+ of marriage, I am still somehow shocked at how much God has entrusted to us, and in turn, how much he calls out of us in marriage. I don't even recognize how much I fall short sometimes. This verse reminds me quickly where my goals must lie. I can say with a little shame but 'eye on the prize' mentality that I wouldn't consider myself a woman with a gentle or quiet spirit, but I am aiming for it daily. Some days I hit the seventh ring of the target, some days I miss the board completely. But I do kn...

This has been a month of big changes. I have been a wife for about a month and a week, in that time we have traveled to Fiji, Australia, Bora Bora, moved out of San Francisco, moved back into St. Louis, Canada, Detroit, St. Louis, Atlanta, and now Minnesota for the deep breath and pure joy of it all: meeting our niece.  Brooklynne Mackenzie Calhoun.  She is absolute perfection. And I know everyone says that about their newborn/granddaughter/daughter/neice but I mean it. Let me tell you why: 1. She never ever cries. Unless she is scheduled to eat, the girl is perfectly content. 2. She has these steel-blue-gray eyes that change every day. 3. She has full blown dreams and sleeps like her mommy and daddy. (Spastic, constantly twitching and making weird faces.) 4. She always, and I mean always, wants to have both hands on her cheeks, reminding me of numerous favorite movie characters. 5. She is so precious. And I can't help but think that since she doesn't have anything to dream ...
